Blender is released under the GNU Public License, as Free Software, and therefore can be distributed by anyone freely. However, the license requires that if you distribute Blender you must also make - on request - the source code available. If you distribute Blender it is good practice to include the source code (see download section) on the CDROM as well.  We request that you also mention the origin of Blender (blender.org) and inform users that they can obtain sources and support there.

For illustration of articles about Blender, the gallery pictures at this site can only be copied with the artist's permission. Most images or movies in our gallery have a link to the creator of the content. In general the artists will cooperate happily with offering proper crediting.

All material you can find on download.blender.org is fully free to be copied or mirrored, but it remains subject to GPL (software) or OpenContent (artwork, docs). The appropriate licenses you can find there too.

The screenshots to the right are free to be used for Blender promotion (but at least mention or link www.blender.org!).
