Biography

I'm currently a Unix System Administrator at the University of Minnesota. I graduated with a BS in Computer Science in 1994 with an emphasis in Computer Graphics and Computer Systems. I've played with computer graphics as a hobby since then, entering the IRTC a few times as well as other things. Then I found blender and the fun started. I've been involved with development of blender since the source was released.

Workshop: Building a blender development environment

This workshop will focus on getting a new blender developer up and running. It will basically show the process of setting up a clean machine as a blender development environment. Briefly I will give a small introduction about the various build systems. Next I'll talk about compiler basics... Headers/shared/static libraries etc.. Then I will ask the audience for a machine and or use my laptop to setup a build environment on it.... (It will be one of the following: Windows/Linux/OSX and will use Makefiles or Scons or MSVC). After that’s done, the remaining time will be spent on user questions. As a side project, I'm going to update the Wiki documentation on installing on the listed platforms and try to make it simpler for new users to find out what they need to get started. Finally, I'll try to help everyone that attends and brings a machine with a network connection, to get a development environment set up before they leave the conference.
