I'm rendering a shirt. Its a fairly simple cylindrical mesh imported from a DXF file. It *will not* smooth. Autosmooth, set smooth, whatever. The only effect is that clicking "smooth" under beauty uglifies the mesh beyond recognition. Other than that, it is a bunch of polygon faces. It's usable, but ugly.

I've tried selecting the object, selecting the vertexes, changing the degrees, etc. nothing works.

Bryce smooths it just fine (as an imported DXF) and it appears there are simulated wrinkles in it, but I can't see why that would bother Blender.

Any ideas? Are there some limits in Blender as to the number of meshes in a file or particular types of meshes that can't be smoothed? Any help would be appreciated.

BTW: append doesn't work in Blender 2.23 on Linux.

Hi heavycat,

have you tried removing doubles?

select your mesh
press "Tab" key
press "A"key to select all the verts
press "F9"
press the "Rem doubles"

hope this helps,
