Hi all, this is most likely a basic problem occuring with blender, but after reading beyond hundreds of tutorials there seems to be a problem with blender, in a lot of tutorials I see them assigning vertices to bones. To do this is to:
Go into Object mode, select, the Mesh, and go into edit mode.
Then Select the Vertices and assign them to the new bones, after you've parented the objects.
However, ever since I've had blender I have not been able to do the first step, which is go into "mesh edit mode" after i've added an armature. This problems been weighing me down for such a long time, and I would really appreciate it if someone found a remedy for the problem. Maybe i'm just doing something wrong. The way I do it is:
Object mode A (make sure I select everything) then A again (to un-select everything), then I select the body mesh and hit tab, and it goes into "armature editing mode."
Anyway, thanks in advance.

you need to select objects with the right mouse button to make them active
you need to have an active object to go into edit mode

wow do I feel stupid, thank you, you angel from blender.org!
But seriously thank you so much for the advice, i'm in your debt.
