importing .obj file in blender

Postby ragupta » Sun Oct 12, 2008 7:33 pm

I am new to blender and just finished learning everything about the user interface and making simple models and animations and writing python scripts :)
I am using blender 2.47 and I am trying to import a wavefront obj file using the import object. It gives me the following message but I don't see anything on the blender screen.
--------------
importing obj "C:\PhD\Simulator\Models\camp.obj"
passing obj file "C:\PhD\Simulator\Models\camp.obj"... 11.2851 sec
loading materials and images... 0.0379 sec
building geometry...
verts:271222 faces:293377 materials: 38 smoothgroups:0 ... 9.0904 sec
finished importing: "C:\PhD\Simulator\Models\camp.obj" in 20.4145 sec.
------------

I thought I am supposed to see the imported model in the blender window after this is done.

Any ideas why this might be happening or am I doing something wrong or looking in the wrong place?

Thanks

Check the outliner to see if new data has appeared. My guess is that you need to scale the imported data to be able to see it properly.

Thanks Nathan. That worked.. It was importing it but it was very very small so I couldn't really notice it.
