I tried to add bones to a character as i press shift A i then click armature add single bone the bone does not appear i tried checking the Xray option as well still no bone will appear what do you think im doing wrong?

New objects appear where the 3D cursor is positioned. Try hitting numeric-dot to centre the view on the current selection—that should show you where your new armature has gone to.
