This is a preview of a python script developed by me and
my friend Alessandro Braccili, to make true displacement with
Blender.
Originally this idea was to improve the realism of MakeHuman model, without re-modelling the Base mesh, but now we want release it as
indipendent script (of course, it will be integrated in makehuman too)
Stay tuned: the beta release coming soon.

COOLNESS!
But also try to make it without realtime.
So a simple mesh 6 faces box can render with gobs of tiny detail
in the render phase. That would cut down the need for so many
faces and be powerful !

A onRender python link has been proposed in the functionality board. This would make something like what you just mentioned possible! Any coders who want to implement this, feel free.
