Infuriatingly slow interface buttons.

Postby MJ » Thu Jan 30, 2003 1:19 pm

Hi everyone! - or anyone cos' it seems a bit quiet at the mo

Firstly, I hope this isn't the wrong place to post this question, appologies if it is.

I'm running version 2.25 of Blender Publisher and have "the dreaded" Matrox G400 graphics card, on Win XP. I have the latest graphics drivers from Matrox but the interface in blender is REALLY REALLY slow. tooltips can take a couple of seconds to draw, drop down menus too and any other window related things. And navigating file lists is a nightmare. The 3D window however is fine and runs as normal

If I revert to the drivers that came with XP things are fine but then games and other 3D apps run significantly slower, so obviously I need to use the new matrox ones. I also do opengl coding using data exported from Blender, so I need optimal drivers installed for my code, but then Blender is too slow!!!! AARRGGHH!!!! :x

Any help and ideas are greatly appreciated....thanks in advance!

I think you should ask this on the elysiun forums[/url]
I don't have matrox cards, so I cannot help you, sorry :(
try your chance on elysiuns Q&A, do a search throughout the forums.

conflicting programs

Postby metaphorz » Thu Mar 06, 2003 6:43 pm

I was on my home computer and noticed a sudden slowdown
in Blender menu draws. When I did a Ctrl-Alt-Del to obtain the
process window, I tried removing a couple of programs. I use
Atomica, which provides for easy dictionary and thesaurus lookups,
and when I removed it, I had no problems with the menus.

Moral: try removing some of your startup programs, especially
anything to do with text interaction.

Check your 3D acceleration... the lower it is the lower Blender drawing will be! However is kinda cool seeing Blender drawing things line by line...

And check your color depth. With crappy drivers and a card that sucks it can mean a lot.

I had this problem too, when using trying out this Mac OS X dock clone for Windows. Even when it was auto-hidden the buttons would become very unresponsive and clicks would register a few seconds after I pressed the mouse button. That dock thing makes extensive use of alpha blending/transparency - perhaps it's some sort of conflict between that and Blender's use of OpenGL?
