Here we can discuss issues related to the projects here in the Blender Institute, but also still communicate about Elephants Dream, for example.

Apricot game type?

Postby LetterRip » Thu Nov 01, 2007 7:49 pm

Ton,

has the game type/style been determined yet? Ie first person shooter; myst style puzzle game; 'mini game' style like Raving Rabids, or something else?

Check the info about apricot here:

(we will re-use the peach project assets yes, so it's not likely to be a FPS)

What is this?
A content related forum? I thought you only wanted developers on your site?

I think the most appropriate path to take for a game would be something like a board game (with story elements from the movie) where smaller games are played for points. The story would eventually end by some action or amount of points. [just IMHO.]

The project page (and job descriptions) don't say anything about sound effects or music. Sure, you can use a lot of the assets from the original production, but a seamless loop of music can be more tricky without it getting annoying.

Lastly: the person with the job of doing a lot of texturing will be constrained to what software? Just open source, ie The Gimp? or could more things be used like mapZone, Open Canvas, Photoshop and so on...?

The blender.org forums are for the people who are (or want to be) involved with the activities that happen on blender.org, which is not only development or documentation but also the open movie/game projects.

All of these topics are interesting for artists and developers alike!

I imagine it will be an open world where you can explore everywhere and everything. It should have a story, and perhaps side stories. Interacting with your environment could lead to challenges, such as mini-games or quests. Interactions and challenges advance the story.

I think it should use 3rd person point of view.

I don't expect the story to be related to the one in the movie, but to be in the same setting with the same characters.

The game should be built around a story. Don't make the story bolted-on, or imposed in any way. don't use the story as an excuse to go from one part of the game to the other, but the compelling reason. make a story that is designed so it can be translated into a game, then implement it as a game.

I Have An Idea

Postby ConstantFlux » Fri Feb 01, 2008 6:43 am

I've recently written a short film script (11 minutes.) I've given it to different people, writers, some in the industry, and all of the feedback that I've gotten is really positive. What I propose is a project very similar in nature to Elephant's Dream, but, theoretically, with a plot that is a little more entertaining and meaningful. This is something a little beyond proof-of-concept. I want something that people enjoy watching, enjoy thinking about, enjoy discussing, and ultimately learn from. I think something like this could potentially have even greater impact than Elephant's Dream.

Please, tell me what you think. I'm very open to suggestions, corrections, slight modifications, but I want the high concept to remain clear. I'm looking for a little more feedback before I contact the Blender Institute.

Thank you so very much for your time,
Thom

I'm developing a movie idea, for two or three movies depending on how it goes. But I really need help from people who know how to use things like Blender.

The story is a futuristic space adventure involving the destiny of mankind, and a desperate quest to stop the unstoppable!

I've made a Facebook group at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=7840647173 and I'm trying to gather a team to work on this.
Please contact me with any questions or comments.

Thanks

:)
