I've downloaded the latest version of blender and cannot add a background ref image.

When I hit N a pop up to the right appears and has a option checkbox "Background Image"

I checked the box but find where to open any preferences to select an image to from my files?

Any step by step help appreciated.

Uhhhh... when the the Original Poster said 'latest version', that was back in December 2009. A hazard when posting in old threads, I guess.
