I changed game rendering to glsl

Likely your video card & driver don't like that. You might try turning off compiz.

I think that maybe could be related with the python package installed in my ubuntu
It's 3.1 do you know if there's any newer versions for ubuntu?

well, I tried installing blender 2.49 from ubuntu software center and it works great
all the options and features are available, I tried changing the game rendering to glsl and then changing the scene to textured and it works fine
maybe it's a bug from blender 2.53 release it self or the whole python thing
post something if you can find anything that solves the problem
thank you for your time

Unlikely to be a python problem. Try playing with your OpenGL settings in the User Prefs.
