I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to disable the lighting effects.

I would like to view the texture on a model, but when the Viewport Shading option is changed to textured, the lamp creates a shadow on the object. I would like to have a neutral plain where I can see everything, without any shadows or light effects! There seem to be a lot of options of changing the light effects, but nothing for disabling them.

Could anyone tell me of the option to do this? Thank you.

(I have trawled the net trying to find out how!)

Use a Hemi lamp. This lights the whole scene equally.

Under Layers in the Render settings, there are options to override all lights and all materials. You could use the latter to force all materials to a specific one that you had previously defined as “shadeless” in its Shading settings, which means it pays no attention to lights or shadows.
