ase .ase export

Postby breg » Wed Sep 15, 2010 5:37 pm

I need to export my meshes from Blender 2.54 to UDK. I used to be able to do it in 2.53 thanks to a third party script but it doesn't work in the new release of Blender.
What can I do?
Why doesn't Blender support .ase inports and exports?

Thanks,
Bob

Likely some of the recent Python API cleanup and renaming broke something. If the script was working, it should not be too hard to fix it.

As to the "Why doesn't Blender support $BLAH_BLAH?", the general answer is it will support $BLAH_BLAH when someone cares enough to write the necessary code.

Oh good! I thought it might be some kind of licensing thing. If I could code, I'd get right on it. :(

The script I was using came from http://www.katsbits.com/tools/#ase and it worked for the most part in 2.53 but when I tried to install in in 2.54 I got a fail msg at the python window that said something like:

Line 606 in the register
bpy.types.register<import_OT_ase> already registered as a subclass.

Blender's already so awesome, but the .ase support would be so cool. Thanks again for the info.

The general rule of thumb is blenderartists.org for questions about using blender, the forums here for questions about blender development.

For the record on this one, you need to download the 2.54 script, the 2.53 doesn't work due to internal changes to Blender between versions - http://www.katsbits.com/tools/#ase

To echo stiv, your best bet for support on this is to post on KatsBits forums, as well as reading this - http://www.katsbits.com/smforum/index.p ... 935#msg935
