Im wondering when will bevel be reintroduced to blender 2.5+ , it seems like its taking forever.

Ive been using blender 2.5 now from pretty much the first 2.5 build when it all started, having the fact that i tried 2.49 and hated it.
I rember how horbile blender was in 2.49 to the ponit that i said and belived that blender was a pile of junk , this all chanced when i started becoming more advance in max and then found that i could do the same in blender.

But the one thing i notice is that bevel is still not in blender 2.57 even doe its now stable?, nor is chamfer but that is a easy job to do manual unless you need to chamfer many verts at once XD.

Why is Bevel still not in the build its been quite a long time, sure there is ways around it but it slows me down. If i only want to bevel a few not all the edges then its much faster having the bevel weights added back in.

Really would like to know when this feature is planed to come back, ive even downloaded 2.49 inorder to save me time and this should really not be needed at all.

Blender is still a great program to model with, most capable of keeping up with maya or anyother software out there,
This is just a small problem that really could be fixed pretty fast.

Could anyone give better instructions on how to install the bevel addon, ive installed other addons but seem to not be able to install this one

The installation instructions were badly outdated.
I figured out how to install it properly and updated the wiki page.

Yay! We have a bevel tool again.
Not the most elegant solution, but it does work.

I'd love to try this, but the instructions don't tell me where the "Addons" folder is.

Aha, I think I found it:
/Applications/blender-2.57-release-OSX_10.5_x86_64/blender.app/Contents/MacOS/2.57/scripts/addons/Mesh_Bevel

Yep, that was it.

Awesome. Thanks! Maybe it'd be helpful to add that to the wiki instructions.

It is entirely dependent on where you install Blender.

edit: Cleaned up the installation instructions further.

I found this script on the web and find is a better bevel addon as you can set bevel weights or just simply bevel.
Created by Josh Wedlake and can be found at http://tube.freefac.org/post/edge-tools-expanded or http://www.pasteall.org/19308/python

Did you manage to get it to work in 2.57?

I was aware of this, and knew it was superior in many ways, but was nevr able to get it to install. (thus my posting at the bottom of his Blog page)

Also, there is newer code further down the page embedded in the blog.

Yes working in 2.57b 32 bit windows version
However i did have a problem at first but when going to the pasteall.org link but then found if i hit the copy to clipboard buttion near the top right, opend notepad and pasted it and saved as edge_tools.py it worked.
For some reason if i copy'd the code by highlighting and right click copy it would not work, ill try to upload my script and post a link here hoply.

Got it to work..

You were right, there was a difference between cut&pasting and using the 'copy to clipboard' button. Cut&pasting adds spaces to the beginning of each line which garfs up python.

Latest revision of the code is... http://www.pasteall.org/19511/python

Found that bevel weights is in fact in blender 2.57b+
Bring up the tool shelf with T and under mesh options you will see edge select mode, change it to tag bevel and then simply select the edges you wish to bevel by control clicking them with right mouse.
That adds a bevel weight to edges. with no need for addons. Wink

I guess I do not understand what that is supposed to do...

Does that wok in conjunction with the bevel modifier?

If so, I think I will keep using the addon. (at least till BMesh is rolled in)

basicly it just adds a bevel weight to a edge, its still better to use a addon as you can select a bunch of edges and then appy making it much faster.
yes it works with bevel modifier.
