Well I just downloaded Blender and I was hoping to verify its checksum against that (downloaded version) ; MD5, SHA1 or SHA256 would have been nice.

Perhaps there is a place to find the checksum but on on the Get Blender page and a query didn't show anything alike.

If you know where to find a checksum of the current binary, please let me know.

You can use: http://download.blender.org/release/Blender2.58/release258.md5

to verify...

Thanks SirDude!

Is there a link to this page on the Get Blender page or another visible one?

@SirDude
Hi! Can someone please put a current MD5 SHA1 and/or SHA256 checksum for the latest release v2.66?

I checked:
http://download.blender.org/release/Blender2.66/
to no avail Sad

But then of course, you are replying to a 2yr old thread...

md5 hash tables have not been included since v2.60.

Just a guess... only one person every couple years actually cares. Smile

@SirDude
I can't see the hash / checksum file here.

@Tehrasha
First, CoDEmanX said it best regarding the age of the thread Smile I didn't need to duplicate what had already been asked, just join those already interested, albeit seemingly few, but I'll just call us the 2% of the rest in silence. Haven't you heard not to clutter a thread with millions of the same topic? This discussion is obviously still going on, so we continue today, and it rises at the top because of a cleverly written forum algorithm that supports the same logic.
Secondly, it doesn't matter how many people care. The fact is, one doesn't know what they have downloaded if they can't refer to a hash disclosure. Sure, SSL is wonderful, but then take a look at a man-in-the-middle attack, and it's wholeheartedly worthless. You'll sleep better knowing you generated a hash match, preferably SHA-1 or SHA-256, but regardless MD5 is also worthy enough.
Lastly, a hash only takes seconds on a server to generate it. The security is worth far more than the minor inconvenience of the effort.
Lastly, the checksum / hash is provided for the source code for the same reasons. I am merely asking for the binaries to get the same, which is probably how the bulk of the users got the software.

@SirDude
Thanks very much for being such a diligent steward! Smile

SirDude was also kind enough to generate the hashes for past Blender binaries as well! Smile

FYI for all:
The MD5 sum of release266.md5 in release266.md5 isn't possible, so just ignore that hash as it seems it was generated from an empty file before being populated with the sums of the target files. I'm getting a hash for release266.md5 as 7480b65e34df48036e1dcdd4f35eb5ab

Here's the link again for the current v2.66 & v2.66a with the MD5 file included.

Enjoy!
