Firstly I hope this is the right part of the forum to ask this question.

I am trying to create a tree using billboard technique to be used in a game. This is the sort of thing I am talking about

I have managed to find one or two tutorials showing how to do this, however, I am getting a little stuck. The idea is to place a png of a tree (transparent background) on a plane, but finding it hard to make part of the plane transparent. (i.e. the part that is not the tree)
