Unwanted animation artifacts

Postby psychentist » Thu Mar 22, 2012 7:13 pm

Ok, lets see how well I can convey this.
I have a human character for my game. Animation 1 is "breathe". Animation 2 is "attack" (where he jumps up and does a downward smash sort of attack a la azure dreams)
WELL... For some reason, between the final two keyframes of "breathe", he sort of preemptively moves his arm back to prepare for animation 2. THIS IS DRIVING ME CRAZY!
Ive even screwed up my breathe animation so that the last two keyframes are copies of each other. Theoretically, there should be NO MOVEMENT WHATSOEVER between these two keyframes, right? Yet for some reason, he still moves his arm to prepare for the next movement.
There HAS to be some kind of setting or something to turn this sort of "overthinking" on and off, but I can't for the life of me find it.
PLEASE HELP!

Oh, I forgot to mention that I'm actually using one single animation for all of his actions because I'm going to import him into Unity, where I will then manually separate the animations. This might be important info to understand my issue. Still, there should be zero movement between identical keyframes, right?

There's a video in the link above. You don't have to download it to watch.
Thanks in advance.

I also look forward to an answer on this one.
I have a set of animated wings which simply open and close.
A total of 5 keyframes, with identicalbeginning and end.

closed.....open....half closed....open....closed

However, when the animation loops from the last keyframe back to the first, the wings flutter violently for a few frames before continuing to the open positiion.

Drives me nuts.

Yea, I had a similar issue with a bloody angel girl I made. Never could get the wings to stop passing through themselves. I seem to remember this never happening until they went to the new interface.

Random guessing sez: it has to do with the ease-in/ease out of the curves. Maybe you need to change the extrapolation type or mess with the handles.
