Hi there,
I have a single, complex 3d block shape that I would like to animate unfolding. Is there an easy way to do this please? It would take an age to figure out! I've tried animating unfolding boxes manually but couldn't get it to work properly - mainly as I don't know how to change the pivot /rotation point of a face from the centre of it - so faces rotated in mid air rather than on their joins with other faces. Any help would be amazing please - I'm sure there must be a really easy way to do this....
Cheers
Try parenting each piece to an empty, positioned where you want the rotation axis to lie. Then you animate the rotation of the empty around its centre, and the piece will follow along.
If a piece needs to move around different axes at different times, then create an empty for each axis, parent the piece to the first empty, then parent the first empty to the second empty, and so on.
It sounds complicated, and it is.
There was a tutorial over on BlenderNation the other day about folding a flat sheet.
