was going so well...

Very first time back in Linux after years, so any number of things may be going on here. Still, it never hurts to ask...

Running Ubuntu 11.10 on a 64-bit laptop, installed using wubi. Plenty of HDD space available. Not seeing any odd behavior indicative of memory issues, etc.

Followed the instructions here and everything went smoothly until 85% of the way through the very first build, when I get the following...

. . .
[ 85%] Building CXX object extern/bullet2/CMakeFiles/extern_bullet.dir/src/LinearMath/btGeometryUtil.cpp.o
[ 85%] Building CXX object extern/bullet2/CMakeFiles/extern_bullet.dir/src/LinearMath/btQuickprof.cpp.o
[ 85%] Building CXX object extern/bullet2/CMakeFiles/extern_bullet.dir/src/LinearMath/btSerializer.cpp.o
Linking CXX static library ../../lib/libextern_bullet.a
c++: internal compiler error: Killed (program cc1plus)
Please submit a full bug report,
with preprocessed source if appropriate.
See <file:///usr/share/doc/gcc-4.6/README.Bugs> for instructions.
make[3]: *** [extern/libmv/CMakeFiles/extern_libmv.dir/libmv/multiview/euclidean_resection.cc.o] Error 4
make[2]: *** [extern/libmv/CMakeFiles/extern_libmv.dir/all] Error 2
make[2]: *** Waiting for unfinished jobs....
[ 85%] Built target extern_bullet

Full make log is here. Any suggestions appreciated.

cheers,

I have been able to build Blender just fine using GCC 4.6.3.

Usual fix for compiler errors (NOT COMPILATION ERRORS!) is to install either a new or an older version of the compiler.
