Wish List (it had to be done)

Postby forcefield » Tue Oct 22, 2002 7:33 pm

It had to be done, a wish list had to be made...

Here are a few items I'd like to see:

-Integrated support for external renderers (BMRT, POV-RAY, etc).

-Backface Culled mesh editing (similar to Wings).

-Selfish addition: a alternate compile that omits all the game engine stuff.

PS: Blender 2.25 fixed WAY more problems than I expected! I am VERY happy with what is out right now, but these are things I was asking before the bankruptcy.

-character dynamics
-the nla stuff which is described in the nan developer docs
-shadows for all types of lamps
-built-in export support for renderman, lightflow and yafray
-mpeg4 output support for animations
-the material-editor which es currently discussed at elysiun
-sharp edges for subsurfs

i could continue the list, but i think this is enough for the beginning ;)

Not to be picky, but without nit-picking a wish list gets silly FAST..

-character dynamics
-the nla stuff which is described in the nan developer docs
-shadows for all types of lamps
==>can be faked but RIB support will make this a possibility..
-built-in export support for renderman, lightflow and yafray
==>Look at Green's stuff under the rendering forum..
-mpeg4 output support for animations
==>(not sure about all platforms) You can use any codec with "avi codec" in render buttons...
-the material-editor which es currently discussed at elysiun
-sharp edges for subsurfs
==> can be faked by manipulating the mesh...

Well I'm sure this has been said before but I would appreciate an UNDO button. :D

But I would settle for support for external renderers.

1a.Sound Support in the animation interface to sychronize animation timing.
(Scrubbable, range selectable, ability to add markers)
1b. Sound support in sequence editor

2. An integrated way to create animation silders and attach them to IPOs

My thanks to all of blenders programers and those taking over the task. I have been using Blender for over 2 years and it has steadily improved.
Great work!

faking isn't a good idea,but u r right with the RIB support.

i know green's stuff. Nobody has said that you are not allowed to put something
on a wishlist, which somebody is already developing, right?

not in linux...

but thats not a nice solution, because it makes it a bit tricky to edit the mesh later...

-A 3D gizmo for editing. pressing a key everytime i want to move something simply is to much for me :-) gestures are bad for my mousehand.

- A better way for doing selections. pressing b-key for border select is to much for me, i do most selections as border selects. I want to be able to add/subtract points to/from my current selection. For me you could remove the gestures so i could do border selects all the time.

-better uv-map support. more projection methodes, an unwrap tool to do manual uv space optimisations.

-more mesh editing functionality-break edges, bevel edges/points

I want a kind of FFD modelling like one in 3dsmax, I find very embarrasing to model an object point by point...
(the truth is that I don´t know how to use blender properly, but I love it!!!)

The fixing of the renderer in 2.25 when there is a lot of stuff to render (for those who haven't noticed 2.25 is a lot worse at rendering than 2.23 at high poly's). A GUI that is very compatible with my 32mb ATI card :x . Uhm what else... To conclude, the ability to fill flat surfaces that have more than 4vertexs (I'm thinking, circle, oval, or just plain strange flat surfaces.) It's a bore to have to fill the front of your bevel full cause you're train tracks are lookin' like two tunnels.

P.S> Yes I do love blender. And one more thing. I've fallen in love blenders renderer, please don't replace it.

Yes, a more compatible GUI, and maybe software drawing for the menus, instead of OpenGL.

hmm, damn yes i have a lot to wish for, just minor things that ill make it more intuitive.

understand however that i'm only using it for two ! days. so you might think, i can't comment on blender than, but i think i can. i have experience with 3d apps, and was extremely frustrated at first with it, but now i'm already starting to like it. So, by being a newbie i'm actually in a good possition to comment on stuff that we could change so it is more imeediately apparent to future new users how nice blender actually is.

hmm, i'l write my list of things offline, then post what i've come to ... to be continued...

Lots of new stuff please =) But that's what we're working on I hope. I'd wish for hell of a lot more than I could get together in a night as some wishlist. I agree on most points here but would like to remove some silly limits first, vertex limit for example (ok, i agree I'm not a programmer so I don't actually know if it's silly - maybe there is a good reason for it's existence :D ) Anyways, some additions to the render engine would come in handy, caustics, refractions, reflections. It's quite stupid to have to work so hard to get reflections which should of course, I believe, work automaticly (let the computers compute). Sure there can be an option to use envmapping if you like also (because it's there already, why remove it?). If these things could be implemented then maybe the external renderer support wouldn't be such a big deal - seems to me as if some good renderers are dying... i don't know. Never change anything about the spirit of blender though! Simple, LIGHT, fast, working, grrrreat. No 0,5 gig monster like 3dsmax, I beg you.. cause I have to use it all the time and I honestly hate it  0,5 gigs of bugs and horror.

One of the major drawbacks in Kestji (the blender game engine) is the 8 bit texures. We in the game blender communty want at least 16 bit. And a faster game engine.

Importing and exporting free standart file formats would be very nice.
I think about import of svg and saving images as png.
