Texturing Meshes for DirectX use

i'm programming a 3D simulation of an existing robot (hexapod),
in C++ with DirectX 9.

The meshes are stored in .stp files and come from Autocad Inventor.
i export them to .stl and open and export them with blender to x-file.

but at first i worked on them in blender, deleted some vertexes, and tryed to simplify them. but now i cant give them textures, somehow..

somone maybe know why?
or what i can do to give them a border? each connection of vertexes schould have an visiable line between them.
