Fluid simulation in Cycles

I can get fluids sim to work, but one HUGE problem is that the 'fluid' is always made of big cubes of 'stuff' and although it behaves like a liquid, it looks like it's made from Lego blocks! Is there a setting to make it smoother? I have tried setting the smoothing to 2 or higher and the subdivisions to maximum (5), but no difference. I rebake it every time. Any ideas?
