chat icon Need clarification on GPL for game development

I'm considering researching the Blender code to determine if I can create a plugin for Microsoft XNA. The purpose would be to use Blender as a level editor so I could make changes and play through the levels without exporting art assets to XNA.

However, I don't want to start anything until I understand how the GPL applies in this scenario. I envision this as standalone game on the PC. Does GPL apply if I'm only using art assets from Blender which would be rendered in the XNA engine?

As I understand it, art you create with Blender is yours to license as you wish. Of course, if that art is derived from the work of others, you need to check what their licence conditions are.
