I've been importing crystallographic images from a pdb to generate a biological process in my research. My file now exceeds 3 GB. I have moved as much as I can to other phases to cut back on load times, however I'm currently up to 7 phases and appending additional pdb's into the image takes 10-15 minutes and as such takes just as long to move them / duplicate them as needed. Yesterday I spent 5 hours on the image, an a solid 3 of those hours was waiting for load times. Is there a way to cut this file size down? I'm on an allegedly $6,000 mac on my campus so new hardware is really an impossibility for us at the moment.

Thanks for any input. Shocked

How do you import the pdb file?
Do you build the molecule in Blender, import all atoms as spheres, or import secondary structure?

We might be able to help, but need more info on your molecule and your process.
