Im very lost now, added a mirror then copied the object and wanted to remove the mirror, but couldnt find the option, ended up with loads of windows all over my screen, finally managed to find out you can drag the small lines at the top right to merge the window with another window, then i clicked "view full 3d"(or something like that) and now i can see just the window that has the object within... my menu bar at the top has now vanished and all i can do is drag areas and have more windows????

would be nice to have a menu that has "windows" then you can tick and untick the windows you want open

how do i get my menu back? how do i show the window that allowed me to add a mirror?

It sounds like it originally got set to full screen mode which can be toggled with ALT + F11 or from within the window menu.

The current view can be maximized with CTRL + up and CTRL + down as well.

The windows you referred to are the outliner and properties panels. They can be set by clicking the button in the lower left corner of each panel

Here is a link to a picture that explains more clearly

I encourage you to visit http://blenderartists.org/ for future support as many of us are more active there. I hope this helps.
