welcome to blender Smile

AFAIK, a shader is a formula that calculates the way the light shades the object etc.

you would be better off asking this at elysiun.com forums, thats where all the blender users talk, this site is mainly for people who code.

I've been around blender since 1.6.... And I would think the first place people come to is www.blender.org - I've been to Elysiun many a times and I think its really empty content (totaly personal opinion/observation). I would say the coder mix to users here is 1 to 10 - you could probably prove me wrong in one swoop but that's what I notice lurking around the forums....

I have self educated myself and yes - you are right - this is a developer site... I'll ask my question on Elysiun instead.

No worries...
