I have checked out the CVS several times and it doesn't appear there has been any activity as of yet. Can anyone verify this? If indeed there is no activity, when can we expect there to be activity?

Hiya mate,
Erm, well.... Basically the CVS is only open to be read at the moment (apart from a select few, and they're only human - they're not gonna recode Blender overnight

). So, yeah, basically, you're not going to see a lot of changes to the Blender source code until CVS write access is opened in some form (eg people submitting patches, patches checked by people in the know, they agree, submit it to the CVS tree, etc....). Unfortunately, no one knows when this will be yet
Hope this helped. Hang in there!!

Yes, there is cvs activity, we've opened a new tree for the active developers here to help getting it easier compiling & running at all platforms, with autoconf/makefiles as well as with MSVC project files.
We still suffer from a huge backlog in work, the new server is up and running, but as with all new stuff, it needs loads of configuring to get it all right. Right now CVS even refuses to send mail to the committers...
What we are working at:
- a maillist system at blender.org
- webcvs interface to review development
- the new cvs tree open for everyone
- a much larger download area, with latest snippets of code as well
And of course better insight of whats happening behind the scenes!
