Paul Gregory, dev lead of Aqsis (www.aqsis.org), is aiming to do a RenderMan presentation for BC2005. Smile

The plan is to cover the following areas...

1. History of RenderMan - REYES, RSL, standards and implementations.
2. Technical Aspects - REYES, raytracing and anti-aliasing.
3. Blender and RenderMan - Why it's worth bringing these 2 worlds together.
4. Aqsis - Benefits, key features, future plans and showcase.
5. RenderMan Resources - Further infomation for both users and developers.

If you feel anything's been missed, or would like to see something that isn't already listed, please reply to this post ASAP - Thanks.

Don't forget our old old friend Bruno Patatas (who was so nice to us here) and his Open Source renderman compliant Muse renderer.

Oh wait. Their website's gonzo. Do forget about them.

Nah, and I don't know if I ever will. I live in the U.S. and have a family and mortgage payments!

Hi Panther, will I see you at the Conference again this year ? Smile

I think something really cool would be a hands on, crash course, for Renderman Shaders.

This looks great. There was (briefly) a direct integration with Renderman in the Tuhopuu2 tree. Unfortunately, it's no longer part of the tree. I believe Jonathan Merritt was working on a set of Python classes to help bridge the two worlds; will this work be part of the presentation?

Hi guys, what a response !!! Very Happy

Rcas...

Yep, I'm planning on being at the conference this year... I'll be replying to your 'Meet-up' post in a sec. Smile

A hands-on session would be nice, but we don't really have access to any high-level tools that'll make shader creation easier to get to grips with. Confused

I'll mention it to Paul, maybe we can borrow a room after the presentation for people who want to try the tools we do have.

Thoro...

See Rcas' post, here's the link to save time - http://blender.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6579 Smile

rednelb...

NP, hope you find it useful. Smile

emack...

No, the Tuhopuu2 work is now defunct - Though JM did some great work on the shader side of things. Sad

I'll have a word with Jonathan to see what he's up to, but we weren't planning to cover this in our presentation - It's more of an introduction / overview followed by WIP's / future plans.

Hello,

I think the question is not 'what renderman is?', but how could we build an exporter. I thing that the initiative of Paul Gregory is very important (and thank cheerfully him for it). It could help to convince Blender team that we need this exporter. I hope that, at the end of the conference, we could gather a team to develop the thing. There are different initiatives (like the Sutabi's one for exemple), old scripts (like blenderman). There are people who are motivated (as i) to work. But we must gather all our works in ONE.
