There are two problems I have had with 2.23:

1) When using a MS Intellipoint Explorer (optical mouse), I am unable
to use ALT-LMOUSE to do anything. There is no middle mouse button
(as for just about all mice I have used), and the mouse control
panel does not have an option to set one of the side buttons to any
function resembling 'Middle mouse button'. It simply doesn't appear to
function, for example in moving a view around in 3D. I am able to
use the cursor keypad to do this, so I know that it works, but the
optical mouse must not be sending the correct bytes to Blender? Does
anyone else have this problem of not being able to do ALT-LMOUSE?

2) The screen redraws of menu items and buttons seems really
sluggish. What would it take to improve this? Perhaps, it results
from the OpenGL implementation or an OpenGL setting? I have
an ATI Radeon 9700 with the latest Catalyst drivers. Actually, this
issue is something I've seen in other platforms, with other
display cards.

If it is an intellimouse I'm guessing it has a scroll wheel?
Try pressing down on the scroll wheel for a pleasant surprise!
