How about having it display the modified date of the files? Blender displays the file size I think showing a date would be really useful. (don't know if anyone else would though)

Very useful! And already in there:) In the "open file" window, at the bottom there is a button with stripes on it, it toggles long info. Although I never use this. I use the clock button to the left, to sort by date:D
