Im watching the race for more then ten years now and im still puzzled what Microsoft is trying to belief us. The biggest difference is probably that Direct3D is a little, loud, annoying kid and OpenGL is a mature, settled, nice grownup. I use OpenGL though i started with Direct3D. DirectX does tend...

Re: I want to design a user interface for Blender

To get back to the point of this thread. . . whitelight, you sound like you'd make an excellent addition to the UI team. Currently that team is Ton (kaito), Matt Ebb (broken), with coding work by those two plus Nathan Letwory (jesterKing), Andrea (elubie, btw, she is a girl, remember that), bdiego (...

Hrm, could be an issue with how bone base orientations are calculated; in blender the orientation of the bone attempts to have the z axis point as close to global positive Z up as possible; I don't know how cal3d handles this.

Blender isn't likely to get plugin support for custom object types for quite a while, due to internal design and frankly simply because bunches of other stuff (some of it planned anyway but yet to be implemented) would need to be done.

Re: Misunderstanding... as usual for me.

Stiv: No, sorry. This was not meant as a provocation, but I'm really wondering if Blender actually can do such things. I was asking because I'm trying to figure out how much work would have took to add what I would like to add to it. Basicly, I'm planning/analizing some kind of addition to the Blen...

Um. . .there is not standard for 3D apps. blender is simply different from what you're used to.

And to answer your example of a piano, the beginner will have everything in front of him to play music. Nothing more than easy to use touches... The manual is here to learn advanced functions, not to learn how to use the thing... I understand your point that pianos are still easy to learn the *basi...

I understand your sarcasm, but I didn't say you suck, nor did I say that Ton sucks and I didn't say his vroomjacket sucks either. It's just that I'm greatly annoyed. I would really like to help with Blender, even if it's just small stuff, but I can't because it takes far too much time to dive into ...

And heck, if there's one thing I'd want from a fully widgetized gui (without the slow subwindows from the operating system, that is), it would be speed ... (more speed than I can currently get on my laptop, at least) . Why is opengl bad for 2D guis? Sure, coding things to be fast on all cards is ha...

actually, the gameengine code is extreamly indenpendant of the rest of Blender. unfortunately, the render code is not.

from the little bit of digging arround I've done with the blender source code, the render engine is a speperate cpp file, so you could take quite a lot of the old code, and build a command-line interface to it. It would be a little bit of a project, bute defanintly within the range of possability. ...

joeri wrote:So this would need a new blender? It can't be done in the official release?
well, you can tell blender to render from the commandline. . .

I thought you meant an executable that didn't link to X or libGL. theres no way other then a dummy opengl-dummy ghost implementation libs to do that.

This could work. . .if you made a dummy OpenGL lib :) no other way to do it, what with the way the code is.
