I don't like how they handle textures. They use a zipped archive like Google KMZ, but yet they embed them directly into the file. I would say keep the textures in their native format (JPG,PNG,etc...), and stick them in the zipped archive. That's what it's there for, so use it. And they mentioned the...

Re: The New AMF file format

Hi all, Additive manufacturing people have come up with a new file format that will offer significant benefits over STL. Do the people on Mount Blender Olympus have any insight on it and will Blender support it in the foreseeable future? See http://www.3dfuture.com.au/2011/07/additive-manufacturing...

names are unique per type, meaning you can only have a name once in bpy.data.objects and the same name once in bpy.data.meshes or instance. If you try to rename an object to an existing name, Blender will automatically add .001 at the end (or a higher number if .001 also already exists). Note that ...

Question on Blender object names?

I searched the forums but couldn't find anything.

My question is, how unique are Blender object names and object.data names?
Does Blender perform any internal checks to prevent name clashing?
If they are unique in some way, what is the scope of it?

Thanks

Re: Reduce a model to the exact number of vertices

For a research project we have to compare several meshes, unfortunately our method works best if the meshes have exactly the same number of vertices (faces are not important). Is there any way in Blender to reduce a model to an exact number of vertices? All I have seen so far is based on ratios, ar...

Re: poly winding & normals

Hello, I tried the following model from google warehouse : http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=77ab0252f906dfbba3961499e5e940ba&prevstart=0 and wanted to display it in osx-preview. It shows some broken polygons - probably due to broken normals (inward facing). Regards Post a screensh...

you can send your 3D mesh from ZBrush to one of the supported applications.
Is the protocol published? Reverse engineering a proprietary binary protocol is a PITA.
Maybe the reason why it isn't published, is because ZBrush wants developers to PAY to use it?

Re: [ Request ] Save .blend with password

It would be great when I goto save & can tick save with password, then I enter a password to save my .blend file, so the next time I open it it will ask for a password. I believe this is an important, yet it is a missing function in blender. This way people can collaborate their projects over the i...

LSCM mapping - Pelt Mapping or Unfold mapping. I prefer pelt mapping, popularized by 3dsmax and quickly becoming a word industry people use a lot. I like the fact that Blender mentions the actual scientific name, but it isn't very friendly. I would suggest mentioning the LSCM name in the tooltip or...
