The people who are defending Blender's user interface to the death may do this out of loyalty towards Blender and the developers. However, they are only hurting Blender in the long run by doing so. Don't try to fight improvement. The other reason might be that these people are afraid that giving Ble...

My mistake. Makes the 'only download' part of the test a bit silly, when running on a 'only compile' os.... I mean, why claim it's an "out of the box" test if you do a compile for 1 os? It's the nature of the distribution, you compile your own packages. If you want to install blender on gentoo you ...

The one that comes with it? Typing "gcc --version" should give you a more definitive answer. Really? Where, in notepad? Or do you think windows comes with gcc installed? Since when was there a gentoo windows distribution? He asked wich gcc version he used with gentoo , not windows. To harsh? I apol...

Here's a fix: Download the source, I'm running todays CVS but editscreen.c probably haven't changed much since 2.37. Edit the file [blender root directory]/source/blender/src/editscreen.c in a text editor. Find the headerbox() function, cut it out (including the #define's just above it), and paste t...

Just made a square window headers mockup:

Themable window header drawtype, rounded corners distracting

Some desktop environments may get away with rounded window corners simply because the windows are rarely tiled, they are free floating and there's usually alot of space around the window. In Blender the windows aren't free floating, they are always tiled/connected, and should thus not be rounded IMH...

To me, it would be interesting to hear what Ton thinks about all this :D He will probably not like the idea of ripping out the internal renderer. I'm not even sure I agree with myself on this one, there's so much more important things to improve in blender before doing something like this (like imp...

select(), GetSelected(), GetName() for bones

I'm working on a rig with a so called "Trigger UI" for selecting the controls. Trigger objects are 2d shapes representing control objects on the character, like a hand with a shape for each finger, the 2d shapes are then parented to the camera so that they appear to be a part of the UI. See the foll...

- curved bones (almost done) Even though B-Bones are really cool, Spline IK is entirely different. For an idea how Spline IK works, create a curve with 4 hooks, create a cylinder 4 segments high (each segment in height with each hook), use Curve Deform on the cylinder, move the empties and pretend ...

For reasons of mouse strain and accuracy I am not convinced this 'tweak' is better than what we offer. A RMB click followed with LMB assign is very friendly to use, not to mention that you might want to constrain rotations or translations inbetween. Further doing pre-hilighting on mouse-over is neu...
