Check out http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Manual/Multiple_Materials . It explains how to use multiple materials on single object. Basically you set up two material indices and map vertices accordingly. Note that the user forum (http://blenderartists.org/forum) usually yields answers faster than th...

Textured planes are selectable and movable. ( maybe lib-link can solve this? )
Note that it is possible to set the selectability status of an object at the outliner.

A script such as http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=99626 is excellent for this sort of work by the way.

To grow big you have to be small at some point. In business sense Blender is still small although from hobbyist point of view it has about each feature a hobbyist might need. At the moment Blender seems to be a good choice for a hobbyist. As these hobbyists become experts in Blender it opens them po...

I don't know if this is considered real enough but you can set up other objects to deflect particles. I made a quick test demonstrating this. You can find it at http://bebraw.googlepages.com/particletest.blend . Try playing around with the parameters. I think there is some documentation available as...

If you want to hack up something unofficial, you could write a script that checks the contents of http://download.blender.org/release/ and compares it to previous status. If there are changes in the version number, the script should alert the user. In this case it could prompt the user to download t...

Try ctrl-lmb (left mouse button) on the name of the datablock you wish to rename in the outliner.

Set VCol Paint setting of the material on. You can find this at Buttons Window -> Shading -> Material buttons -> Material (panel). Note that you can use VCol as additional lighting (VCol light option) if you want. This is a development forum. You are likely to get faster and more accurate answers at...

I am not exactly sure what you mean but take a look at the curve tools. There are some tutorials at http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Tutorials#Modelling . Also I have made a simple example demonstrating some features (alt-s, tilt, bevOb, taper, curve modifier): http://bebraw.googlepages.com/curveex...

Where would the new node appear if it was created using the header menu? I remember I took a look at this once but it wasn't trivial to implement it at that point. (Must have been tired or something.) I recall having problems passing the mouse coordinates in a sensible way. Would you mind taking a l...

Yes. Blender does not use any external UI library. It's totally custom. The user interface is based on OpenGL.

Gabbi: If you are using BevOb, you can try alt-s on control point of the profile curve (not the one set as BevOb). Alternatively you can use Taper. Check wiki for more information about tapering. Basically a taper is just a curve that defines amount of BevOb used in a given point. So for example if ...

You could take a look at convertblender.c (found in .../render/intern/source/ ). You can find the functions that convert all object types to render faces (VlakRen) there. Check the init_render_foo functions. Basically you could do backface culling (removal of back faces) or similar tricks in that pa...
