Will it be possible to use the UI layer in new app someday?

Hi, I've been hearing a bit about some of the internal changes to Blender that may be coming up in 2.5. I've always liked Blender's interface concept, and I've always wanted to use the interface for other applications. With the new UI/event changes, do you think it would be possible? That is, possib...

Re: Draw guidelines?

Thanks. I guess one way would be to dedicate one layer to such geometry. The main downside is that if you want such "guide" geometry to have a certain appearence, you need to assign it manually each time (though you could save the materials in your default .blend file...)

Draw guidelines?

Is there a way in Blender to draw guidelines in the 3D views, that are only to help align or sketch out where to place geometry, but aren't real geometry themselves. E.g. similar to guidelines you might pull down in Photoshop, but in 3D space. (They should be in the same space as the geometry, so yo...

Re: Are there any projects in Blender communities to SecondL

Are there any projects or applications like Second Life? Sorry for replying to an old message, but I'm just getting back into the Blender forums after being away for a long time :) My project is one. See http://interreality.org . It's still in an alpha/experimental stage, and are getting ready for ...

Re: Blender for online 3D

There are scripts to export to VRML97. There may also be a script to export to X3D. I think they come with blender, if not use google or search blenderartists.org, or let me know and I can track them down. There are a few browser plugins for X3D and VRML97. The best ones for VRML97 are probably Cort...

Beware. I've seen some circle menus that make life much more difficult than they ought to. For example, there is a hack or extension to Firefox somewhere for this, but instead of being a "pie" shape, it's a series of small round icons. First, it's hard to remember what the icons mean, and there is l...

It usually looks better to place the leaves manually, which can be a pain. (You should use "Link" though -- ALT-D -- to make the new leaf objects if you do this, so that you can modify the mesh data later, and to save file space, memory and a bit of rendering performace maybe.) Another way is this: ...

I don't know where the scripts directory is on MacOSX but the Console is an application (look in Utilities).

Well, I only require a simple attribute of an object that doesn't change. Actually, if a TEXT object could be linked to one or more objects (so objects could share the same attribute) then that would be useful too. If they could be targets or sources of data flow in an animation then maybe that woul...

You could write a script to render the geometry to PostScript or another vector format, if you didn't want to render to a bitmap then try to convert that to Postscript. The problem is if you want lighting, textures, etc.-- then you'd basically be implementing your own renderer! But if you just want ...

Atach arbitrary user-supplied attributes to objects?

For a script, I would like to let the user add arbitrary key=value pairs to any object, and also to a scene. The value should also have a data type ("float", "int", "bool", "string", or user-supplied type identifier string). I would also love to be able to use the script/text editor to edit certain ...

Any conferences this summer?

The CrystalSpace developers are discussing the idea of having a CS conference this summer in Germany. Are there any other conferences in Germany around that time, about Blender or about some other related topic (free software, graphics, linux, etc.)? (Also, when and where is the next Blender Confere...

I like the motivation here, we need a way to keep track of scripts. But I think the most important thing is to have a script repository at www.blender.org. The repository must be a new part of blender.org-- if it's a seperate effort, the repository will vanish if the volunteers behind that effort lo...

I like this idea too. It would not be trivial to implement, since none of the buttons can be individually dragged AFAIK, but should be possible.
