Duplicate material but have all other obj data linked?

Is there some way to duplicate objects but have all the properties like mesh physics and so on the same but still be able to make them different colors? Kind of like the alt+D function but it won’t let me apply different materials to the objects, it ends up changing it on all the other objects.

Could someone at least give me one line of scrip that would control or change the number in the ‘max’ box in that actuator?

Perpetual motion in physics engine?

I created this in blender using just the physics engine no animating at all. I wanted to see if it was possible, instead found out that blenders physics engine is not accurate at all or stable. http://www.mediafire.com/download/9b2ca04vkh1bkx3/perpetual+motion.blend my question is how stable and acc...

That is interesting to the fact that I love to mess with computers but im not that skilled in programming, ive looked at that before but cant figure out how to mesh the parallel computing with the programs. Just to get this straight, Shift+D is a full duplicate and the Alt+D is the link right?

That didn’t work either.
I actually changed the collision to near or radar and it seemed to work, I just had to set the distance just right. Thanks for the suggestions.
I wonder y it won’t work when parented? Maybe that will change
