Here's a very simular thread in the python support forums at blenderartists.org: http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?279555-quot-self-quot-in-expression-driver&highlight=scripted+expression+self However, there's no real answer there neither, I'm afraid (except for the hardcoded name alter...

Hi, I would very much like to second dr_brown's request. It would be very handy indeed to be able to give a 'self' argument to the driver function. This way, a driver expression could do its thing based on (among others, possibly) the properties (custom or otherwise) of the object the expression is ...

Re: Worse Problem

Animating an object's visibility in the outliner panel is easy - but what I hope to do is replace a single object with a duplicate which has been cell fractured into hundreds of pieces. Animating the visibility of these is just too much. Is there a way to animate visibility for many objects in this...

[SOLVED] Keyframing object layers weirdness

I guess we can mark this thread as solved. See the afore mentioned thread on blenderartists.org. In short: don't animate the layer(s) an object belongs to. If you want an object to (dis/re) appear in your scene/render, go to the outliner, and animate the objects visibility (eye icon) and/or renderab...

There's a quite recent thread about this on blenderartists.org, too: http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthr ... ender-2-63

Unfortunately, it doesn't (yet) provide an answer to our question, either, though you might want to check it out.

Keyframing object layers weirdness

[blender 2.65.0 on 64-bit win7] Hi all, I'm trying to animate my scene by having various objects appearing and disappearing in the scene at various times/frames. In a previous post on this forum, someone suggested keyframing the layer(s) the object belongs to (under object -> relations properties). ...

Alright, thank you CoDEmanX, for a very swift and clear reply! I only really needed relinking the data, which works perfectly as you described it. It's a lot less resource hungry this way, and much more flexible, since I had some (array-) modifiers applied to the original objects (the 5 spheres). Af...

Duplicating active object at selected object positions

[blender 2.65.0 on win7 64-bit] Hi all, let's say i have 5 spheres in my scene, and I want to replace them all with cubes. I'd like to be able to select all the spheres, and then the cube, and run a script which takes care of this. Ideally, I'd probably only want to relink the object data of the sel...

Same here, using Blender 2.63a on 64-bit Windows 7.

I also have some old files where it does work, but it no longer works in my more recent files.

Any help highly appreciated!
