time is no such a big deal. Blender has a lot of developers already, but they are kind of their own. Ton is dedicating his time to very important things like getting funds, maintaining this web page, etc. But compactifying the developing community is no less important. The ppl is there, it just need...

relevance of irc for building the developer community

Hi folks, I've been noting that most opensource projects tend to dismiss the importance of a central point of interaction of ideas. I'm a occasional contributor on the CrystalSpace 3D engine, where the founder developers have formed along the years a community on the irc not just in name, tight and ...

hmm.. well, that library seems well suited for the rendering engine, but boolean mesh isnt already present on Blender? i think Ton was thinking of a CD library for the game engine, i imagine we had to wait to things to settle down a little so things start to get more organized

heh sorry for the yelling, but i was starting to feel like no one was hearing :) ok, most open source projects work around two main methodologies: a) Project leader splits a series of tasks, post them somewhere and ppl start taking them b) if someone wants to contribute consistently, he/she go and a...

NOOOOO!!! that is the quickest way to fork Blender, what are going to do ppl with a lot of patches that doesnt know what they do unless they install it???? do you _think_ ppl are going to install 8, 9 versions of Blender?? there CANNOT be "patches" , "thingies", or even worse, "hacks", when ppl talk...

the plugin system is very neat in a open source project because it requires only knowledge of the interface ie: the plugin implements an abstract class and is loaded from the client app (which in this case is blender as the whole app) from maybe a plugin menu or something other way.. if we allow tha...

this all point to modularization of Blender ie: splitting functionality in dynamically loadable libraries (plugins) Im not aware of the current plugin infrastructure in Blender (maybe Ton could extend on this) anyway, for this we must arrange general interfaces which each plugin implements but for t...

about organization

Hi folks! i wanted to know what the most important tasks are there to work with what i can think of is: 1) enhance Python Integration API 2) enhance the plugin system to allow more tasks to be done (AFAIK currently only procedural textures are supported thru plugins). This will favour a modular appr...
