btw, Ghost is self contained, right? I mean that it in no way depends on Blender, correct?

The startup times for Java apps are related to class loading for whatever application your running. But that's really only the first time you've started the program. The VM is good about caching and JIT compilation so that consecutive startups are considerably faster. The VM itself starts up rather ...

Java is plenty fast, in most cases on par with C++ speeds. The canard that Java is clunky and slow is simply not true. And Java is as hard to install as point and click. Yes Blender will render faster in C that Java, but it would render faster in assembler than C, so on and so forth. The point is th...

I've been thinking about this for a while. I haven't used the 3d max or XSI plugins. Are they used to preview shaders that would be applied to a model? I have been thinking alot about using GPU's for real time rendering. There is some interesting work in this area. But, like you, i've only poked aro...

Open up a shell window and type 'glxinfo | grep dri'
or simply type g'glxinfo' and look for the words dri.

Use of dri is required for 3d acceleration. If it's not being used, blender will be slow.

this is a silly question to ask, imo.

all languages have advantages and disadvantages.
One obvious disadvantage is the extra overhead Java requires. java = bloat.

besides, python has been w/blender since it's inception, i think. feel free to code in a java api, though.

You know, as long as were on the subject of new modeling tools, has anybody ever used this? As a traditional artist, I think it would be much more intuitive to draw your models, as opposed to the traditional 3d methods. This software's been out for so long, I'm suprised no one else has tried to impl...

Blender.org is for development of blender, not to ask questions about how to use the software.

I would try http://www.elysiun.com/

You're questions will undoubtedly be answered there.

Could you be a little more descriptive?
What kind of errors is it giving you?

The static version should have no dependencies, as it is well, static.

Where's the binaries?

Wouldn't it be reasonable to post all the previous binary versions of Blender on Blender.org, instead of just source code.

Including 2.25?
