I'm currently working on a similar thing for guitar.
I'm hoping to be able to input tabliture music and get the strings to vibrate in time and a the right point on the kneck.

Early days yet. Many more questions to ask.

surface tools?

I'm not sure if I understand exactly, but I think what dagobert is talking about is surface tools, like they have in 3DS MAX. Basically it lets you build surfaces entirely out of bezier splines. It makes modelling very fast and easy, much easier than NURBS. ...if this is indeed what he means, I agre...
