I think the 3.0 series should be reserved for Blender GUI toolkit, database schema and centralized brainstorm-codebase subversion management system. Like there is wx, GTK and QT, there could be "bc" for BlenderComponents. And like there is object relational mapper in Django or SQLAlchemy, there coul...

Some kind of content management system instead of old-fashioned version control system would be nice start. Have you any suggestions? I have lately been interested of Django, they are using it for newspaper production. But could the same idea functiate with coding production? Can we do it? Does any ...

I guess this is going to turn to a discussion of what is the best programming language. At time it is Python. Compared to C++ the readability of Python code is superior. Personally I'm not active developer of Blender, but in this kind of projects it is usually the readability that counts. As Blender...

Coding Algorithms for Procedural Textures?

Can anyone help me find how the procedural textures are implemented in the source code? Are the algorithms easy or complicated, so they could be used in own standalone Python-scripts? (Mainly I would be interested as "a case study" of the Cloud-texture.)

I don't know the reason, why the script is designed so, but for me it seems like Blender turns the obj-files XY-plane to Blenders XZ-plane. I guess Matlab prefers the XY-plane when exporting, so what you need to do, is to rotate the imported structure along X-axis. One other reason can be the so cal...

The scripting interface is only for Python. If you are interested in digging in the source code, then you may have some usage for C++ too. The main source is coded in C, but as I know C++ is used in some parts of Game Engine. You can download the source code from Blender's homepage, and see if you c...

There are some historical reasons behind this. One can say Blender is a result of some C-coders, who are productive in the way they get things done, but who have no time to follow the design trends.

I don’t think that that’s too much to ask for, the Blender program it’s self is a million times more complicated than the interface functionality that I’m hoping for. ( why cant skins be added??) That is the equation, yes. Blender is advanced in some area, because the programmers have made the deci...

No, Blender is not designed as an open system, it was a so called in-house animation tool for a private company. After the company bankrupted, the source code was buyed free by a group of visionary volunteers. (Or something like that...) At the early 2000's there was not many programming tools nor l...

Besides improving the technical ability, there is also the aspect of limited time to do so ... Yes, you are right. Stil yet there is a decision how you use your time, what programming tools you decide to use, what parts you decide to take from existing GUI toolkits, what to create from scratch.

I wish I knew how to program and had the necessary access to the code I would do it myself. You can learn how to program. It means, studying yourself by reading, searhing for information, watching lectures, trying yourself. All the code is available for you, and it's free. It's a long and hard way,...
