Here's my suggestion for the Sintel logo. Attached it a B&W version as well as 2 color versions. I created the font from scratch. It's supposed to reflect similarities to the tattoos worn in Sintel's culture. The sharp points suggest the danger, the curves suggest both the dragon and the young girl....

I'm not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for, but you can invoke Blender from the command line, so it could be ran from an external program.

Under the Texture Panel on the Map Image tab you can set the Xrepeat and Yrepeat values for an image texture.

Which is the point of my note, since the mesh is part of the data, and shading alters the data (not the object), the Shading and Flat buttons are not object tools so they should probably not go on the Object Tools panel. I noticed Smooth and Flat buttons in the Object Tools. Given 2.5 is reorganizing things I was wondering if this is the best place.
