The argument that Blender works best on 64-bit systems with hordes of RAM is a bit disingenuous -- of course it does. But not everyone has the backing of the Blender Foundation to finance their rendering capability, so we do what we can with what we have. Operating systems usually use extra availabl...

Thanks, Stiv. It all makes much better sense now -- sometimes a contiguous chunk is available, other times not. But that seems extremely limiting unless you have plenty of RAM to spare (I don't, it seems). Even that may be insufficient if the call is for a large len and memory is currently rather fr...

2.55: Memory allocation during rendering & crashes

I'm having the devil's own time getting 2.55 to render consistently. With my current project, there are times when I can render a scene only once -- a second try crashes Blender. This often depends on what scene elements are being rendered, in particular hair particle systems that are set for Tracea...

A versatile design. Upper left is my preferred, but it's adaptable.

custom rig w/pydrivers.py broken in 2.48

Opening a project I've been bringing forward through the versions since 2.44, I hit a real land mine with 2.48: http://www.metrocast.net/~chipartist/ImagePost/Kata-246v248.jpg Version 2.46 is on the left, same exact files, frame, etc. in 2.48 on the right. OOPS! My rig uses special bones driven by a...

The Script Constraints look really useful, but I've already invested a lot of hours into the pydrivers.py approach (begun before the new constraints were available) and my rig is built to use them, plus there's a whole new learning curve to using the Script Constraints that I just don't have time to...

Right. stiv, I know that 2.46rc1 isn't "release" status yet (but they intend it to be very soon), and my main reasons for posting were to 1) see if I was missing some aspect of using the scripted IPO drivers that would solve the problem (i.e., user error instead of a bug) 2) see if this had already ...

Thanks OREO, but this is one of those problems that crosses over a number of areas. It's directly related to animation, but also touches on using Python scripting, since it uses scripted IPO channel drivers. But part of the question is why a diff between frames rendered with F12 and frames rendered ...

Different renders using RENDER(F12) & ANIMATE (sequence)

I'm testing a complex rig I've built that uses pydrivers.py IPO drivers for certain bones that correct for deformation problems such as those at ankles, knees and elbows. This is an alternative to using shape keys, but is automated much the same way. The rig works as designed, and when the pydrivers...

This sounds like you maxed out the resolution on the z-buffer. Try setting clipStart and clipEnd as closely as possible. You were right in that the problem is related somehow to the Camera Clip values, but the results of a few tests give me pause regarding maxing out Z-buffer rez. My initial Clip v...

surface position error on rendering

A surprising problem has shown up in Blender 2.45 -- the farther from the camera a pair of adjacent objects is, the greater the error in rendering their respective surface positions, so much so that an object inside another starts to render outside! http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/104/positionerr...

After a couple of hours of testing, I can say that there's definitely a memory usage anomaly connected with running pydrivrs.py scripts. In all case I tested, Blender's memory usage rose as calls were made to the pydrivers.py functions. This was the case when both objects and bones were driven by py...

This is definitely related to pydriver.py usage, and looks more and more like a bug, bad one, too. I save my projects in incremental files, so I can go back as many steps as need be whenever necessary. I opened the last version of this project file with no pydrivers.py, ran the timeline, mani...
