@marco: i can't do it right now in blender, but it seems to work fine in my imagination.
i dit it pretty close with IK before
it's not that it is imposible to do it, but it could and should be more elegant

I guess all you need is another object as UP.

of course, it only tries to stay "parallel", only in certain cases it will be paralel

i don't know python either, i can only say some thinks, not many, in MAXscript

i fell in love with blender though :X so i'm trying to switch to it since i can afford it :D

Ok, i cannot make an image right now, but if you can open 3ds max files i can show you what i want to do in the meanwhile... so track to constraint, as it is built in blender, does the following thing 1. takes the Oy and make it look at T no matter what. 2. but O have two more axes, x and z. what to...

@ m.ardito: no, that's not what i want if i do what you are sugesting the object O will look wiht the y axes toward T and this ax will be always pointing at object O, and with the z axes will try to look after object U but i want the z axes of the object O to be (actually to try to be) paralel with ...

"track to" question

how can i make an object (let-s say it O) to track to the target T with the y axes and have the z axes aligned not to world's z axes, as it is in "track to constraint", but to z axes of another object, let's call it U

thanks!

i figured it out with IK somehow, but IK applies to bones only :(
