You can certainly make an infrared effect but Blender doesn't do it automatically because it would require a full physical simulation which it wasn't designed to do.

That could be several things. One thing to check is if blender is set to use the objects UV coordinates. Default coordinates are set to "generated". In the textures panel, go down to the mapping section and set the coordinates dropdown to UV.

To get the opposite views you have to hold ctrl on the keyboard and then press the numbers in the keypad. So if pressing 1 on the keypad gives you the front view, you press CTRL-1, to get the back view.

Same goes for the Right/Left view, press CTRL-3, instead of 3

Blender 2.49 only supports trianges and quads. Not N-Gons. So the only edges you can dissolve is either an edgeloop, or an edge between two triangles.

To dissolves the edge between two tris, select both adjoining faces and press F

Getting textures to come through is always a bit of a hassle. I don't know of any format that includes the textures inside of the file so you might want to get used to relinking them manually.

The normals in your gun are inside out. WHen you go into face edit mode, you can show normals by clicking "draw normals" in the "mesh tools more" tab. Yes you can snap to verts, edges, faces, whatever you want. Click the little magnet icon in the viewport header.

Could be your near & far clipping planes are set incorrectly. Select your cam, press F9 and tweak the values under Clipping Start/End

I believe the cylindrical unwrap depends on the viewport. Try applying the modifier when you are in front (1 on keypad) and in side (3 on keypad) view.

No thats possible... I thought you wanted to model and rig in blender and send it to max.
