camera orientation

Nice work -- seems to have solved the key issues! here is something else I noticed. Create a new Blender scene with a single cube mesh in it. Your export correctly matches the Blender camera. Now, take the Blender camera and rotate it a little around its axis. The exported VRML doesn't look the same...

problems

Here is some feedback. First, thanks for taking the time to update this script. It is a good one! The script failed on the following two worlds. Download them from http://www.cise.ufl.edu/~fishwick/blender/vrml Both of these were developed by others, but I happen to have them handy, and they were no...

partial solution

Even though creating an interrupt should not a crash in Blender, I figured out a way to to avoid the problem. I use a boolean variable "continueanim" to set to true initially, and then continueanim = True while .... and continueanim: try: ...... simulation/animation code .... ...... except KeyboardI...

Interrupting script crashes Blender

I am doing rendering in a python script that I wrote, by setting the start frame/end frame, and so forth. It works fine as long it goes to completion. The problem is that when I try to stop it by going to the DOS window and typing Ctrl-C, it does stop the script with a "keyboard interrupt"; however,...

size is not an issue

Well, when we use the Blender game engine, we are not using a web browser (plugin), and so size is not an issue. If I want to use a web plugin, I would use X3D or VRML. When scouring the web, most game engines are not web compatible. My feeling is that the benefits of having uniform Python access ou...

cross-use of Python modules

Blending the two Python Modules

From my brief experimentation with the Game Python API, it seems that while it is possible to place Blender and GameLogic modules inside the same script, during "game play" (P in the 3d window) only GameLogic modules and methods are available in realtime (changes made with Blender methods work but o...

Suggestion: API access to certain variables

GENERAL OBSERVATION: some variables that are accessible in the UI are not available in the Python API. For example, when trying to access the RGB numeric values in "MapTo" under materials, it appears that there is no access. SUGGESTION: there are certainly ways around some of these limitations, howe...

Suggestion/BugFix: Match Y-axis and Number displays

Suggestion for change/fix in Blender's IPO window: BACKGROUND: if one of the Rot variables is fitted in the IPO window, the corresponding value for Y is divided by 10. This is true even if the Rot variable shows, for example, Y-axis numbers from 0 to 360 (i.e, when a vertex is selected at Y-axis val...

A Rage Mobility Solution

Yes, I had this problem as well. Here is the fix that worked for me-- very simple, and no need to mess with the hardware acceleration. You will have 3 display resolution settings: Medium: 16 bit High: 24 bit Highest 32 bit Choose 24 Bit and your problems may well disappear. 16 bit and 32 bit do not ...

conflicting programs

I was on my home computer and noticed a sudden slowdown in Blender menu draws. When I did a Ctrl-Alt-Del to obtain the process window, I tried removing a couple of programs. I use Atomica, which provides for easy dictionary and thesaurus lookups, and when I removed it, I had no problems with the men...

Blender in Education

Yes, I like your proposal. Using Python within an immersive, 3D environment like Blender is a good first step. It would certainly engage students. At the University of Florida, we are going one step further in getting students to not only think of basic computing within the 3D environment, but using...

Thanks - see new post

Good point. Rick Kimball told the same thing to me. Got everything to compile and link. Anyway, I gathered together all of the (weak) knowledge that I have, and as explicitly as possible made a document that details how the make process works from beginning to end. I posted it at: http://www.cise.uf...

Explicit Instructions for making Windows Blender 2.26

Here are detailed instructions on making Blender 2.26 on
Windows from source. I am obtained help from different people
and wanted to very clearly specify what is required:

Followup to this Problem

I did what you suggested-made those previously nonexistent directories within the c:\python22 area. I did not put anything in the directories--just created them. The build then went through with 0 errors and 2 warnings. Then, I tried to build blender using the blender.dsw that was presumably just co...
