My rig is almost exactly the same (except I use nVidia and my OS is 64bit). I does the job, but if you're planning to do anything really complicated, I am afraid it will not be enough... I made a rendering test a couple of weeks ago (don't remember the resolution) and it took about an hour to render...

Also depends on the format in which you wish to display the animation, but since Blender is capable of exporting to a lot different formats, I guess you're OK.

I have been using 2.49 32 bit. It installed without a problem (I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit). Probably this week I will try installing 2.5 alpha... But until it becomes stable (2.6?) I will be using 2.49 32 bit...
