Re: "Free" Blender situation very confusing

Is this really free software? Are there usable executables without keys and EULAs? I'm using one on my Debian GNU/Linux i686. :) It's a Debian package somebody made from the free source code that can be downloaded here. There were also some binaries for Windows floating around, but I don't know mor...

Answering questions for a feature in Brave GNU World

Hi! I contacted Georg Greve from the Brave GNU World column (it is printed on a regularly basis in many "Linux" magazines and in many languages), and told him that I would be glad to see a feature about Blender in one of the next issues of his column. He replied that he knew the project already, and...

Re: Ideas

Ton, what do you think of the discussion about "embedding vs extending"? Can you elaborate that? There's some discussion going on (in another thread) about having most of Blender's functionality just be a Python module (which would lead to somehow wiring the interface to Python, but I'm not sure wh...

Some investigation into Savannah

Hi! For everybody that still would like to see a SourceForge.net -like system (Savannah is a fork of SF 2.0) adapted for blender.org project accounts, I just thought I would share a small (not-too-difficult-to-find-out) discovery. Judging from http://savannah.gnu.org/docs/admin.php , Savannah seems ...

Oyyy - time passed on so fast that I thought the new servers would go online this weekend. It looks like the last week was way too busy for me. :? Now I'll just take some days off from here (sorry) and relax - see you soon again. People can still reach me at xitnalta.web@de ( 8) ) during that not-to...

Ok, seems to take a bit longer. I will send in a preliminary version (heavily reformatted - but not too heavy 8) ) in the next few ... hours. ;) Also contains many corrections.

Hi B@rt! Thanks a lot for providing the "proposal platform"! :) Do you accept diff's? but before you can translate anything you would need to have something TO translate, right? Exactly my words! :) Btw., the correct spelling is Alvaro (2 x 'a'), not "Alvero". http://vrotvrot.com/BlenderDoc/Process....

Hi! I just want to provide some additional information on GNU / GNU Emacs / XEmacs . Heyho... Is that Xemacs cross platform? So everybody can use it? EMACS (can't recall the full meaning of the acronym) is UNIX native Not exactly. The GNU project started in 1984 with the goal to build a portable ope...

Re: CVS instructions

If you change it to "cvs -z4 co blender" it will automatically use compression which is faster for the user and uses much less bandwidth on the cvs server (checkouts are mostly text and therefore compress very well). Thanks for the good hint! I did know it before (really), but it's worth mentioning...

Re: Why doesn't blender.org say what Blender is?????

It would be really easy to implement on the page, and I reckon it could make the world of difference. So why not? Because it's seemingly the case that many people have to say: good idea! Let's do that! So, yes! You have my vote for it! It should really be done, and I've already written elsewhere th...

I now do what I already did before: I won't contribute to this thread anymore. It is locked for me, by me. I will contribute to other threads and to the documentation effort, but here I'm absolutely lost. It looks like a black hole between the blender.org site and some readers somewhere else on the ...

Formatting can be done in any possible way by transforming into HTML, of course.

Then they shouldn't participate in the discussion on the core documentation format at all.

NO ONE HAS DOCBOOK!!! Not very many people want to download YET ANOTHER app just to view the documentation. Almost anyone can read HTML/XML, so docdookie isn't a very good idea, it would prolly shut people off to blender if they have to try and navigate another site to download some obscure app, ju...
