while in editing mode F9, look in the modifier tab - add modifier... You will find the subsurf button there.

Download Python 2.3 from python.org, once installed the message will no longer appear.
Use Python 2.4 for next version of Blender (version 2.4 on the verge to be release).

I've got Python 2.3 and 2.4 installed on my PC... No problems.

This is what I've done

beforre buying my laptop, got Blender burned on a CD with a few files from the guide CD and tried out a demo laptop from Eurocom. Since Blender can be executed from a CD without being installed on the machine, I've had the opportunity to test and see Blender performed on the laptop.

Works great on Eurocom 888ES

Got a Eurocom 888ES with a 16.1-inch SXGA (1280x1024) Active Matrix Display, 512 MB RAM,ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 and running 2.4 GHz Intel® Pentium® 4 processor- They call it the dream machine and Blender works great on it (all version) :P

I used PayPal to pay for the book. After completing my order through the E-shop, I've receveid an e-mail from Paypal confirming my payment to Blender.org and 5 minutes later I've received confirmation from Blender E-shop that they got paid .:D That was on Friday the 21 th of November around 15h00. Blender (all version) works OK. Render window will show backgroung border of windows of blender if mouse is moved...
