Reducing number of polygons with decimator option

Hello I want to reduce the numbers of polygons of a 3d object from(8000) to (800). I have tried to reduce them using decimator slider button but I get the error ERROR: No manifold Mesh Anybody knows what means this message and how can I do this reduction? (My 3d object is not a triangle mesh) Thanks...

Hi I use 3d object converter. You can download at ftp://ftp.elf.stuba.sk/pub/pc/graph/3dc32210.zip It allows me read 3D Studio .3ds and save Blender .obj 3d objects. Then I load .obj in blender. TextureCoordinate2 in VRML 1.0 file format Blender exported

When I save a blender textured triangle mesh in VRML 1.0 file format I always get in the TextureCoordinate2 point 2 (u,v) (1.000000, 1.000000). I am developing a VRML 1.0 file viewer but I lost the texture mapping infrmation from vertice 2 so I can not assign correctly the textures to blender models...
